Is this the shortest marriage ever? Couple divorces
just three minutes after tying the knot
The engagement lasted longer than
the marriage.
The newly single woman was praised
for ditching her critical spouse by people on Twitter.
For most people, their wedding day
is one of the biggest days of their life. But for one Kuwaiti couple it spelled
disaster – and a short-lived on at that.
Q8 news
calls it the shortest marriage in the history of Kuwait.
Apparently the bride tripped on her
way out of the magistrate’s office just after the ceremony was concluded.
Instead of giving his bride a helping hand, the groom called her “stupid”.
And on the spot the bride, livid
with rage at the insult, insisted the magistrate annul the wedding.
The magistrate complied, and before
the ink on their marriage certificate had even dried properly, they were no
longer married.
At that time, the couple had only
legally been married for three minutes.
The newly single woman was praised
for ditching her critical spouse by people on Twitter, when news of the quickie
divorce broke.
"A marriage with no respect, is
a failed one right from the beginning," another added.
In 2018 there were about 1 to 4
single men and women in Kuwait, Roya
News reports.
In reaction to the low wedding rate,
the government now offer loans and financial support to newlyweds in an effort
to encourage marriages. Unfortunately, this has given rise to a trend of
investment-driven weddings, resulting in a spike in the number of divorces.
In 2017 the divorce rate in Kuwait
was 60%, putting it in joint sixth place with Luxemburg on the list of
countries’ divorce rates. Belgium is No 1 on the list with 71%.
